Straight Outta Compton is indeed the least surprising surprise hit of the summer, soaring to an incredible $60.2 million in its debut weekend almost doubling the $29 million it cost to make the film.
"'Straight Outta Compton' is for Universal yet another example of a perfectly realized distribution and marketing plan that brought an important story to the big screen," Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Rentrak said, according to CNN Money. "Not only did audiences clearly love the film, but critics were on board as well."

I’m still in awe after watching ‘Straight Outta Compton' it was funny, sad, endearing, moving, powerful, REAL, and all around AMAZING. Easily the best movie I’ve seen in such a long time!! O'Shea Jackson Jr., Jason Mitchell, and Corey Hawkins did such a phenomenal job portraying Ice Cube. EAZY-E, and Dr. Dre. Aldis Hodge (MC Ren) and Neil Brown, Jr. (DJ Yella) also did wonderfully done jobs! I applaud them all on truly becoming N.W.A. They did such a raw and dope job on delivering their real-life counterparts that I just want to go back and watch the movie again and again. I know it’s all based on a true story and we could read about it all on Wiki or interviews or other articles, but seeing it played out the way it was? Nothing comes close to seeing these young men become N.W.A. on the big screen. Wow. Just wow.
