A bench warrant was signed and issued for the arrest of the “Caught Up In The Rapture” singer Anita Baker for her failure to appear at a creditor’s examination hearing after being subpoenaed to do so last September.
Baker is alleged to have failed to pay over $15,000 in monies owed to a painting and decorating service that did some work on her suburban Detroit home in 2009. Dan Gerow, the attorney representing Ray A. Smith Painting & Decorating, says a judgment against Baker for $15, 351.41 was awarded to Smith in April of 2011 and Baker has yet to pay one single cent. “I just want to collect the money,” Gerow said.
This isn't the first time Baker has faced the possibility of being sent to jail. In 2010, a judge threatened to lock her up for allegedly failing to sign documents in her divorce dispute. She narrowly avoided jail time then by reaching a last-minute agreement. (source)
